Michael’s new CD, Angels in the Telegraph Room, is now on release.

Acclaimed Stourport writer Michael Wyndham Thomas is hoping poetry lovers will get the message with the release of his latest collection of poems and songs, Angels in the Telegraph Room.

Michael, of Lickhill Road, has gained international recognition for his work as far afield as the USA, where he served as poet-in-residence at the annual Robert Frost Festival in Florida, to Albania.

His latest audio collection features work soon to be published in pamphlet form and showcases his musical abilities on tracks such as Buckler’s Reach, Cheryl’s Been A Mess and Hoj and I.

Twenty new poems are featured, with titles such as Call Yourself King, Housemaid on Fire, Terraplane and What Did Mr Morgan Do. Together the collectionpromises encounters with heartache, bafflement, botched haymaking and attempts to steal the moon.

Michael, who is also a senior university lecturer in English literature and who has won prestigious prizes for his work, said: “Although most people experience poetry in written form it is still primarily about performance.  And while there is nothing quite like presenting ones work to a live audience, the beauty of capturing it on a CD is that the poems achieve the permanence of print but also have to stand alone without distraction – it is, literally, all about the words.”

Besides his new collection, 2012 has proved a busy and successful year for Michael so far. He has completed a new sequence of poems, is close to completing a novella and is soon to release the sequel to his sci-fi novel The Mercury Annual. Entitled Pilgrims at the White Horizon,  the story concludes the adventures of Keith, a handyman from the West Midlands who finds himself transported tp the fantastical world of Razalia whose inhabitants believe he is a God come to save them from the mysterious ‘white’ that is slowly consuming their planet.

Michael added: “I was pleased with the interest shown in The Mercury Annual when it was offered for sale on Amazon and hope for a similar reaction when the sequel comes out shortly.”

Michael is available for readings of his work and can be contacted on 01299 822489.

Angels in the Telegraph Room, released from MayB Studios, is available from the same number, priced £5 / €6 / $8, or from michaelw.thomas@btinternet.com or www.cdbaby.com
